WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.......
Have you ever done something right or wrong and you start asking yourself why you ended up doing it?
Well, personally I do so a multiple times. Mostly we end up doing different things which some people may think we are not supposed to be doing coz according to them its wrong and this is where the saying that ' people are different' originates from.
WHY ARE PEOPLE DIFFERENT?
CROSS-CULTURAL APPROACH
Everyone's experiences in life differs and the way we were brought up really matters. According to John Locke, we were all born as blank slates and with time we accumulate knowledge and information from what we interact with. So basically, a child born in an environment full of violence views violence as a norm and a right thing unlike a child who grew up in a peaceful environment. That's a major reason for differences.
Our way of life or cultures also differ because some communities shun away some vices while others uphold them. For instance some support polygamy while others do not hence cross cultural differences arise from our social and cultural surroundings.
Hence the saying 'what surrounds us shapes us.'
BIOLOGICAL APPROACH
Biologically we all differ due to our genetic make-up and this is not something we can control as it is inherited from our parents. You may see an hot-tempered child and feel as if they do not want to control their anger simply because yours is controllable or because you are genetically short-tempered. And that's a reason for differences too.
EVOLUTIONARY APPROACH
The first time I came across this I remembered Charles Darwin and his evolution theory in history. But in life we adapt and change way too fast so as to meet our needs. I might be a 'party animal' right now because I feel young and I might have the few coins to spend. But at some point in life I may quit partying because I now want to spend the few coins on my kids or family and that's evolution coz have changed what I used to be in order to survive. And now people view you differently from others In short with this approach difference comes in how we change in order to survive. That is, survival for the fittest.
COGNITIVE APPROACH
Here we look at cognition. Peoples line of thinking differs so much majorly influenced by their experiences, beliefs and watching other people experiences. For example, severally heartbroken people may choose not to marry because they fear getting hurt or seeing several marriages fail one may choose not to date as they fear theirs wont work out too.
Here all reasons are valid and the thoughts differ from one person to the other hence how we think is different or rather ' what you think is right to you might be wrong to someone else'.
LETS JUST SAY THE ENVIRONMENT WE ARE IN, OUR EXPERIENCES, BELEIFS, CULTURE AND OUR THOUGHTS LARGERLY SHAPE US TO BE WHO WE ARE AND THATS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.
